Larry Wyatt grew up in Lincoln and enjoyed a career as a football coach at Del Oro High School from 1979 through 2001, including 16 years as the JV coach and six years as the Varsity Coach. His record was 172-48-4 with 15 league championships. Even after stepping down as Varsity Coach, Larry remained involved with the team through 2017.
Larry was a critical volunteer and fan of the Lincoln Potters Baseball Club when it resumed operations at McBean Stadium in 2016. He was often found helping to put away chairs after games and taking on, unasked, any number of additional volunteer tasks throughout the season. Larry died unexpectedly in 2019 and has been sorely missed by the Lincoln Community, as well as the entire Lincoln Potters Baseball Club and its fanbase each summer season.
Larry’s wife, Kris, and their daughters created the Larry Wyatt Memorial Scholarship, given by the Friends of McBean Park in 2021 and 2022. This scholarship award is made each spring to 1-2 graduating seniors at Lincoln High School, from which Larry graduated.
Candidates must complete an application, identify any awards received, describe a person that inspired them (2 paragraphs), and submit a letter of recommendation. Winners are selected based on their ability to articulate clear goals, demonstrated a hardworking ethic, and exhibition of strong personal character. Lincoln High School coordinates this application process, which occurs in February and March of each school year. Scholarship awards vary from $500 to $1,000.
